Get your documents together early
Keep your driving license, passport or photo ID, and booking confirmation together before you travel. The rental company may require a physical credit card in the main driver’s name.
Some destinations require an International Driving Permit alongside your regular license. Requirements depend on the destination and the issuing country, so confirm with the supplier and relevant official sources before departure.
Read the policy before the counter
Look at the deposit, excess, mileage allowance, cancellation rules, and fuel policy. Ask about any parts you do not understand while you still have time to make changes.
A low daily rate does not tell the complete story. Compare the total including location fees, driver surcharges, extras, and any one-way charges.
Give pickup enough breathing room
Allow time to reach the rental desk and inspect the vehicle. Airport rental centers can be a shuttle ride from the terminal rather than a short walk from arrivals.
Add your flight number when available and keep the pickup contact details accessible offline. If your flight is delayed, contact the rental team to understand your options.
Learn the car before you leave
Adjust the seat and mirrors, connect your phone while parked, and locate the headlights, wipers, and parking brake. Check whether the navigation guidance is set to your preferred language.
Walk around the vehicle with the agent. Make sure existing marks are documented and record the fuel or charge level. Keep your photos until the rental has closed.
Plan a calm return
Check the return address and opening hours before the final day. Leave time for refueling or charging and follow the agreed procedure for after-hours returns.
Request a return receipt and retain the final agreement. A few organized minutes at each end make the entire rental feel easier.
